Galettes au gruau de grand-maman Carrier
2/3 cup of Crisco shortening (most be shortening)
1 cup of brown sugar
2 eggs beaten
3 tablespoon of milk (the original recipe called for 3 teaspoon but my mother added an extra teaspoon eventually and it was used with a total of 4 teaspoon after with everyone to make the galettes more moist inside)
1 cup of oatmeal (the minute one not the slow cooking one)
1 1/2 cup flour
1 teaspoon of cinamon
1 teaspoon of baking powder (the original recipe called for 1 teaspoon but my mother added an extra teaspoon eventually and it was used with 2 teaspoon after with everyone to make the galettes thicker)
1/2 teaspoon of baking soda
1/4 teaspoon of salt
Mix the sugar and the shortening until creamy. Add eggs, milk, and oatmeal. Mix. Add all the dried ingredientsand lightly mix until everything is moist.
Cook at 325 for 15 minutes and then check every minute until they just start to change color on top. Don't cook too much. Let them cool down and then spread Smucker's rasberry jam on them and join to together.
